Battery Life and Heat
One thing that I am always keen of when it comes to buying laptops is the battery life. So far it meets my expectations. Three hours on battery operation is not bad. But what I do not like is that the notebook heats up fast. What can I do, all notebooks are like that LOL.
Keyboard and Touchpad
We all expect that the keyboard is quite “compact” and yes it is but compared to other mini notebooks, it is durable and you will feel more comfortable typing on it than the other mini notebooks. After a couple of keystrokes my fingers are already accustomed to it. For the touchpad, I do not have a problem with it.
Build and Design
The design is quite similar to other mini notebooks we’ve seen. The exterior is covered in glossy plastics with smooth lines, rounded edges, and a style that looks like it’s trying to strike a balance between “fun” and “functional.” The look is pretty basic, almost like a miniature version of the Inspiron 1525 notebook. Glossy plastic is found on the top of the screen cover as well as around the entire LCD and palm rests. Matte black plastic is used on the base of the netbook and on the keyboard. Overall, the look is quite nice, but the glossy LCD lid is a magnet for fingerprints and makes the new netbook look a little tarnished after just a few minutes of use.
The Display
You will really love the display of this mini notebook. The glossy LED backlit display is nice and vibrant with rich colors and good contrast. But there is still a problem with it when you are outdoor. But who cares? Still it is the best among them
Horizontal viewing angles are good, so you and a friend won’t have trouble watching a movie on the 8.9-inch screen at the same time. Vertical viewing angles are acceptable.
Conclusion
Among all other mini notebooks, Dell mini is on my top pick so far. From its sleek design down to its performance and its expandability, you can never go wrong. But as we all know it, big or small computers evolves very fast. A computer today is already considered obsolete after a couple of months. What you think is the best today is considered a junk tomorrow. I wonder when will this cycle stops?
